Emotional Support Animals

Tompkins Community Counseling offers our clients support in obtaining and training an Emotional Support Animal (ESA) or a Service Animal (SA) to mitigate specific needs due to a disability.

This can include waking up a client during a nightmare, helping reorient clients during dissociative episodes, and using the dog as a "security blanket" by providing therapeutic pressure on the client's chest, lap, legs, etc.

We have established a relationship with both a breeder and a trainer and can meet as a team to help teach your pup the specific skills that will support your Mental Health needs.

During our sessions, we not only practice those skills but utilize them to support our clients. If your animal is trained according to the official guidelines of the Americans with Disability Act (ADA), we encourage you to bring them into your counseling session.
